Synergies on the River

7/24/2007 - Eight Offshore Pro-Series teams took part in the 2007 Chrysler Jeep Superstores Detroit APBA Gold Cup race on the fourth stop of the 2007 Pro-Series Tour, July 13-15. The three day event was filled with excitement, as thousands of Detroit race fans lined the shore to see a dozen Unlimited Hydroplanes, eight Offshore Pro-Series boats and a host of Grand National and Vintage boats compete in heat after heat at this historic powerboat racing event produced by DRRA (Detroit River Regatta Association).
Steven David, Unlimited driver of U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto, a multiple National Champion and former APBA top official had this to say about the weekend: “All of the categories made for a powerful mosaic of the best in powerboat racing. The offshore elite did a fantastic job on the course and off. The cooperation between the categories was awesome, producing a thrill a minute for the fans.”

Pro-Series teams, All Jack’D Up, Cintron, CMS Offshore Racing, JD Byrider, Miss Geico, Reliable Carriers, Renegade and Warpaint, where particularly welcomed by the loyal Detroit fans on Saturday, when high winds and choppy water conditions made it impossible to run the unlimiteds. That’s when the big cats started to roar – and roar they did, as these deafening powerhouses screamed past the cheering crowds.

Thomas Bertolini, DRRA President and Race Director, was also pleased with the synergies of the event: “In my five years as Race Director, I have never worked with a more professional group. Not only did you (one of the Pro-Series teams), put me at ease on Friday with your maneuvering thru the Roostertail turn, but also just some of the classy things you guys did, that didn’t go unnoticed. For instance the Chrysler Jeep decals on the boats, the Mayor’s name on the boat Friday for the press ride ……. and lastly you saved our event on Saturday when we could not run the unlimiteds.”

All of the participating Pro-Series teams deserve to be recognized with a sincere thank you for so positively promoting offshore racing at this historic and renowned motor sports event.
